The Hong Kong Association of Medical Laboratories (HKAML), representing most of the 40+ active medical laboratories in Hong Kong, has evaluated the initiative of health care reform, is supportive of it and the eHealth, and would participate in the electronic Health Records (eHR) Sharing. In February 2011, the HKAML is granted a fund to design and implement a Laboratory Management Solution (LMS) project for the private sector of the medical laboratory industry, with the following objectives:
Establish a data standard platform for exchanging and sharing laboratory results; and improve the support and readiness of the private medical laboratory industry for integration with eHR.
•
Raise the awareness and support of the coming changes brought forth by the healthcare reform and sharing of eHR;
•
Create a common and open source platform for the industry to support electronic information exchange;
•
Provide standardized laboratory data to medical clinics to support standardized and integrated eHR; and
•
Provide a foundation which paves way for the territory-wide eHR sharing and healthcare service delivery infrastructure.
